January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake shook Haiti. At least 150,000 Haitian have lost their lives, and more than 1 million people are left homeless. For the people of Taiwan, the effect of earthquake is not unfamiliar. We started to ask ourselves, “What can we do?”
January 14, a group of young volunteers began to organize and create a platform, Taiwan for Haiti (TFH), on facebook to share current Haiti updates and relief information. And most of all, to instigating action.
Close to 6000 members have joined the facebook group.
Now, we have launched the “Haitian Earthquake Relief Act,” calling for more young people to take action and help.
The program is simple. Donate NT$100 (or above) to any Haiti relief NPOs, and we have found corporations and individuals to put in an additional NT$200.
